Squares Image Tour
It remains a matter of opinion, but the Charles Bridge may be considered a square
as well. It has the same order of proportions as the Wenceslas Square, it is reserved strictly for pedestrians,
and it has a lively crowd of stalls, artists, and tourists.
- Old Town Square
The Old Town Square (Staromestske Namesti) is one of the most colourful squares
of Prague. Its perimeter is lined with historical buildings, each one worth
careful study. Part of it (between the Town Hall buildings and the St. Nicholas
Church) has been destroyed and stayed empty ever since. It is a hot and sensitive
issue whether and how to fill it in.
- Wenceslas Square
Originally, the Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske Namesti) was meant to be a market, with the main trade
being horses. Because of its length (approximately 750 m) and partwise occupation
by car-traffic, the square divides up into two parts (the Old Town side and the Museum side).
